Week 2

So the good news for this week is the aforementioned drop in my blood pressure, and as of this morning a 1% loss of body fat, and a corresponding 1% gain in lean muscle mass.

The bad news is that I think I tore my plantar fascia in my right foot, which means no hiking for 6 weeks or so. So I’ll be leaning on cycling, yoga, and body-weight exercises.

Still no side-effects, and my appetite for food and booze is severely muted. I’m starting to get used to eating when my body tells me to rather than, “it’s dinnertime”. And I’m laughing about the smaller portions that are doing the job.

I honestly wish I’d been tracking my food expenditures for a few months before starting, because I’m definitely spending far less on food.

Quick update

So I think I broke my foot. At the doctor’s office now, and my blood pressure is way down…..116/68. 4 weeks ago it was 134/82.

Not bad at all.

Week one down

One week in….According to the bathroom scale, 8.6 pounds down, BMI down 1.1, gained .7% muscle mass, dropped .7% fat.  Feel pretty good.  Definitely a reduction in appetite, and oddly very little desire for alcohol.  No side effects to speak of, except when I eat by habit rather than what my body’s asking for.

Took my second shot this morning.  No real tapering off of the effectiveness of last week’s, but I definitely feel it doing its stuff shortly after the injection.  Hunger is greatly suppressed, and I’ve had no desire to, “bored eat”.  I’m capable of eating more than I’m hungry for, but the couple times I have, I immediately feel horrible (nausea, bloating, headache).  This works for me, as my desire is to use the GLP-1 as a behavioral modification tool, not a lifelong treatment.

I’m logging all my food intake via Lose It!  I’m targeting at least 40 grams of fiber and 100 grams of protein daily and targeting about 1,500 calories.  My sugar intake was already low, and I’m driving it lower.  I’m getting at least a gallon of water every day.  I’m taking a rather extensive supplement and probiotic package (which I hope to reduce if/when my LDL numbers drop) which includes AG-1 green powder, D3, methylated folate, NAD+, CoQ-10, fish oil, turmeric, magnesium, and cholate.

So no sleep issues, no constipation or diarrhea, no hunger pains, no fatigue, no muscle pain, no weakness.  With a week’s experience, I’d say this was worth it so far.

Lesson learned

Had a few cocktails last night, far fewer than I would normally have on a Friday night. First alcohol I’ve had since I started the shots. Didn’t feel much different last night, definitely feels different this morning. Not a fan. Not horrifically hungover, but not pleasant either. The good news is that (so far) no negative impact on libido.

2nd morning

With the massive lunch yesterday I had next to nothing for dinner last night. Literally 2 pickles. Didn’t wake up hungry. Another 70 minutes of workout before going to work, and my regular breakfast. Scale’s down a bit, but it’s too soon to make any judgment about it.

No loss of energy, and no side-effects so far.

Whoops

Totally over-ate at lunch. Feel like hot garbage now. Clearly the stuff is working.

Wasn’t really even that hungry. But it was lunchtime, and there was brisket….

The sun also rises…

No issues sleeping last night, other than 3 overnight trips to the bathroom vs my usual 1. Woke up feeling great, and worked out for a solid 70 minutes. No negative side effects whatsoever.

Got my baseline numbers this morning. My lean mass is 75.4%. Let’s see where it goes.

Interesting….

5 hours after the injection, I struggled to finish this 470 calorie meal. And I’m 500 calories below my daily target to lose 1-1/2 pounds a week.

Away we go…..

The package from Brello showed up today, and at 1:30 this afternoon I started with my first dose. Simple to do, and I’m not feeling anything weird.

In preparation for the jab, I’ve gone heavy on protein and fiber today, and I’m guzzling water.

I forgot to weigh myself this morning, so I’ll do that tomorrow morning.

Worth a shot?

After fighting a losing battle with my LDL levels, and my known intolerance for statins, I’ve decided to give a GLP-1 peptide a shot (no pun intended).  I’m rather proud of my state of health.  My blood chemistry is otherwise stellar; just the LDL and triglycerides have been problematic.  I’m in good physical shape.  Could stand to lose 10-15 pounds, but nothing egregious.  I eat and hydrate well, and I exercise regularly.  And I’m not on any maintenance meds.  But no matter what I’ve tried, I can’t get the cholesterol down.  My ratio’s good, but it just likes to hover around 300.

The GLP-1s seem to assist with a general lowering of cholesterol and inflammation.  Both good things.  If I drop a few pounds in the process, also a good thing.  I did a teledoc appointment, got labwork done as a baseline, and have started the Prior Authorization process with my insurance company for Wegovy.  In the meantime I’ve ordered 3 months of compounded semaglutide to get me started.

The plan is this: at least an hour a day of exercise, at least a gallon of water every day, tracking macros and calories via the Lose It! app, and a continuation of my supplement regime (AG-1, D3, CoQ-10, Fish Oil, Turmeric, Metholated Folate, and Magnesium).

I’m not sure what to expect, but the worst thing that could happen is that it doesn’t work and I have to look at alternative solutions.  I’ll be updating The Island at least once a week, so stay tuned.
